Text Box: The Albemarle Commission’s Area Agency on Aging is part of a national network of aging agencies established by Federal Law under the Older Americans Act.  As such we are the leading aging representing the NC Division of Aging and Adult Services.  Through Funds administered we contract aging services with local services providers for services as diverse as nutrition, transportation, adult day care, care giver respite, in-home services, and small home repairs.  We also provide funds for our Senior Center’s general purpose use and outreach activities.

Our direct services include the Nutrition Program administered at a separate site by program specialists.  We administer the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program and the Family Caregiver Support Program.  Services and events include Senior Games and Reverse Mortgage Counseling.  As well, we sponsor training Forums and workshops that often provide continuing education units to local professionals.  Our Aging Advisory Council monitors our goals for services provision.

Additionally, we provide primary support to our Senior Tarheel Legislators and twenty-one locally appointed committees whose existence is mandated by the NC Division of Aging and Adult Services.  The Albemarle Commission’s Area Agency on Aging (AAA) is dedicated to serving older adults age 60 or better who reside in the counties of Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hyde, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrrell, and Washington.  Collectively, these ten
counties are known as Region R.

 Thanks to Banfield
 Charitable Trust, the
 Albemarle Commission
 Senior Nutrition Program will
no longer have to worry about
 our homebound seniors
 sharing their home
 delivered meal with their
 pet. We recently received a
 check for $1,000.00 to
 purchase dog/cat food for our
 seniors who have pets. We
 appreciate Banfield’s
 dedication to eliminating
 senior hunger, not just among
our elderly, but for their pets
 too!
