Workforce Development
The Northeastern Workforce Development Board (NWDB) is committed to growing and retaining employment opportunities for the workforce in our region. A recent innovation, the NWDB Business Training Series, is dedicated to addressing the skill needs of area managers, executives, and administrators in order to increase the competitive capacity of the business.
In 2009, at the height of the recession, the NWDB forged new relationships with two of our University’s most experienced business assistance programs – NC State’s Industrial Extension Service (IES) and the Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC). Working together, we designed three training programs unique to Northeastern North Carolina’s business community and workforce development.
This collaborative approach to design a training series was new to North Carolina. For the first time, a regional workforce board treated business and management education as a workforce strategy and provided specific program solutions. The impact has been profound. Participants claimed improved business problem solving skills, greater financial performance, and reduced waste and expenses due to these trainings.
