State Energy Sector Partnership Grant
DOL State Energy Sector Partnership (SESP) Grant
The SESP Grant for the northeast region has been branded the Sustainability Initiative of Northeastern NC – Growing Green Resources. The mission of Sustainability Initiative is to drive projects that help grow the Green Economy in Northeastern NC measured by increased green employment opportunities and an increase in the skilled workforce.
We are actively seeking clean energy projects, employers in need of trained employees, and jobseekers wanting to be employed in the clean energy sector. For more information, please contact Karen Gilbert, Grant Project manager.
SESP Incumbent Workforce Development Program
The purpose of the SESP Incumbent Workforce Development Program (SESP IWDP) is to support training and education for incumbent workers involved in Green Sector related businesses/industries and will result in increased wages, increased advancement opportunities and responsibilities, and/or job title change. Each employee attending training will receive a nationally or industry recognized certification.
Current classes and trainings
The SESP Grant has many committed partners.
This initiative continues to develop regional partners in order to mobilize and educate the community regarding training and career opportunities. We work with corporate employers and local training vendors, including the North Carolina Community College and the University systems to develop training specific to demand driven employment opportunities (such as training in response to the development of regional wind and solar farms). The Initiative also works in collaboration with clean energy partners who actively pursue funding for additional projects.
Project Advisory Committee
The Committee meets every quarter to review projects and to plan for new training and events.
Green Business Connection
The Sustainability Initiative works in partnership with local green businesses that established the Green Business Connection (GBC), a business support and resource group.
